Cómo se calcula esto
The total trip cost is the sum of four categories: flights, accommodation, daily spending and other one-off costs. Accommodation is the nightly rate multiplied by the number of nights; daily spending is the daily budget multiplied by the trip length in days; flights and other costs are entered as single figures. The cost per day is the total divided by the trip length, a useful sanity check on whether the daily budget is realistic.
The model assumes fixed prices for each category. It does not account for seasonality (peak-season flights and rooms can be double the off-peak price), last-minute booking premiums, exchange-rate movements if you are paying in a foreign currency, or the buffer most experienced travellers add for surprises. A common practice is to add 10–15% to the total as a contingency, which this calculator does not do automatically.
For trips spanning multiple destinations with different price levels, calculate each leg separately and add the totals, rather than using a single daily budget for the whole trip. The currency you choose is a planning currency only — if you will pay in several currencies, convert each category at a realistic rate before entering it.

A one-week trip to Portugal: €600 flights, €80/night for 7 nights, €70/day for 8 days, €150 for insurance and transfers.

- ¿Qué debo incluir en “otros costes”?
- Cualquier cosa no cubierta por vuelos, alojamiento o gasto diario: visados, seguro de viaje, traslados al aeropuerto, tarjetas SIM, alquiler de equipo o tours reservados. Agrúpalos en una sola cifra para mantener el presupuesto simple.
- ¿Cómo fijo un presupuesto diario realista?
- Investiga los costes típicos de comida, transporte local y actividades en tu destino. Añade un 10–15 % de margen para imprevistos. Los presupuestos diarios en ciudades caras pueden ser 2–3 veces los de ciudades más baratas para el mismo nivel.
- ¿Esto tiene en cuenta los cambios de tipo de cambio?
- No. Usa la moneda que introduces como cifra fija de planificación. Si pagas en moneda extranjera, convierte tu presupuesto a un tipo realista y añade un margen para movimientos del tipo y comisiones del proveedor.
- Should I include pre-booked tours in "other costs" or the daily budget?
- If a tour is a one-off expense booked before the trip, put it in "other costs". If it is a typical day’s activity, fold it into the daily budget. The split is a matter of how you want to see the breakdown, not the final total.
- How do I budget for a multi-city trip?
- Calculate each city leg separately with its own nightly rate and daily budget, then add the totals along with shared flights and transfers. Price levels vary widely between cities in the same country, so a single average daily budget understates the expensive legs.
