It is the number runners reach for to plan race splits and training paces, because pace stays constant regardless of distance in a way that speed and finish time do not.

Cómo se calcula esto

Pace is the time it takes to cover a unit of distance, usually expressed in minutes per kilometre or per mile. This calculator divides the total time (converted to minutes) by the distance to get the pace per kilometre, then converts that to a per-mile pace, and also reports the average speed.

Pace is more useful than speed for runners because it is additive: if you know your target pace, you can predict a finish time for any distance by multiplying. Speed (km/h) is less intuitive for pacing because it does not scale linearly with perceived effort across distances.

The model is direct arithmetic on a single distance and time. It does not account for terrain (trail versus road), elevation changes, wind, temperature, or fatigue late in a long run — all of which change the pace you can sustain. For race planning, train at and slightly faster than your target pace, and adjust for course conditions on the day.

Ejemplo resuelto

A 10 km run completed in 55 minutes 0 seconds.

  1. 1Total time in minutes = 55 + 0 ÷ 60 = 55.0 min.
  2. 2Pace per km = 55 ÷ 10 = 5.5 min/km = 5:30 per km.
  3. 3Pace per mile = 5.5 × 1.609 ≈ 8.85 min/mi = 8:51 per mile; average speed = 10 ÷ (55 ÷ 60) ≈ 10.9 km/h.

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Cómo se calcula el ritmo?
Ritmo = tiempo total ÷ distancia.
How is pace calculated?
Pace = total time ÷ distance. The calculator converts your time into minutes, divides by the distance, then formats it as minutes and seconds per km and per mile, and also reports average speed.
How do I hit a target race time?
Divide your target finish time by the race distance to get the required pace, then train at and slightly faster than that pace. Adjust for course conditions on the day, since terrain, wind and elevation change the pace you can sustain.
